After the putsch, the Military Regime started a strong change to resolve the economic crisis. According to Friedman's ideas, the "Chicago Boys" implemented a radical program of liberalization, deregulation and privatization.

The economy collapsed after those measures. This is a step that Friedman considers necessary to "reborn". GDP felt, exports were halved and the unemployment rate increased. At the end of the 1970s, the country rose again, witnessing an economic boom called the "Chilean Miracle". But the cuts in social measures have pushed families just above the poverty line outside, increasing inequality.
