Ndeye Sokhna Ba is Abdul's mother, and Fatou Peul's sister. She is the oldest person living in the family house.
She will be 77 years old this year. She is anxious about it, because someone told her
that she will die at this age. If the bottom of her face is darker, it is because she is Peul.
Peul are an african ethnic group, traditionally nomad, who mark the face of girls when
they are teenager. They put around the mouth a mix of henna, coal and salt, which is printed
for the all life. Ndeye had twelve children, nine survived. Abdul is the last of them.
