Pablo Neruda was a symbol of the Chilean cultural influence. He is described as an enlightened, passionate and generous man,  support of Allende. The day of the putsch, his house was ransacked and his books are burned. He dies at the Santa Maria clinic, where he is hospitalized for cancer. His driver talks about lethal injection.
