Arrived in Malaga after several hours of driving in the heat wave, I flop down on the beach, looking for freshness. The light at the end of the day is amazing and I want to paint it quickly. I lost the taste for laborious concentrations in Cordoba.

This time, I choose a small notebook.

The format of the sheet is like a living space. Large spaces provide stimulating freedom of movement but can lead to hoarding. Small perimeters force you to make choices and keep only the essentials. Of course, the opposite exists: be minimalist and refined in a large format or multiply the details in a pocket square. Anyway, varying the size of the support frees up the gesture.

I sketch a quick view of the city center from the back of the Picasso museum. The little notebook is quick to get out and discreet in the crowd, but it is unforgiving. On a small drawing, the errors seem enormous, when they sometimes drown in large compositions.
