Lulled by the lapping of a fountain, I paint one of the many shaded courtyards of the Viana Palace, in Cordoba. A man passes by and whispers in my ear: “It’s much more beautiful on the patio next door”. So what ?
Whoever paints outdoors becomes a small public event. Passers-by enjoy watching the painting and share their thoughts. One day, while I was concentrating on the watercolor of a Greek temple, I heard a young man call out to a person behind me and ask: “So, is it worth it? »
The sidewalk of a busy city is the perfect place to confront your ego with the judgment of others. Unlike a carefully considered exhibition, the notebook reveals the work in progress. Impossible under these conditions to select his most beautiful works to highlight.
Accepting to show the unfinished has not always been easy for me. The notebook turned out to be a real learning experience. The habit of being observed in action has had an impact on my approach to drawing and on my professional life. This allowed me to be able to film my gesture and draw in front of an audience while controling live stage fright.
Many thanks to all the people who disturbed me.
